Tourism and Events in Córdoba

La Feria de Córdoba

The Cordoba Fair is usually held at the end of May (23rd to 30th of may), to mark the feast of Our Lady of la Salud (Health). The special fairground in el Arenal is very easy to get to and horse-riders and men or women in gypsy dress can be seen in the casetas (individual enclosures belonging to each association) which are laid out in orderly rows in the different streets of the fairground. All the casetas are public, and the doors are open for visitors to enter any they like, which is half the fun of it all. The uplifting sound of Sevillanas, the fino wine, the tapas, the Cordoban hat and the peinetas (ornamental combs worn by the women) make the Cordoba Fair as amazing an experience as any of the other Andalusian fairs.

Tickets are not needed to enter the Feria. Preferrably arrive at night during the dates above to enjoy!

La Mezquita-Catedral

The Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (World Heritage Site since 1984) is arguably the most significant monument in the whole of the western Muslim World and one of the most amazing buildings in the world in its own right. The complete evolution of the Omeyan style in Spain can be seen in its different sections, as well as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of the Christian part.

El Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos

The Alcázar (castle) of Cordoba, with its thick defensive walls, served both as a fortress and a palace, and is a perfect illustration of the development of Cordoban architecture through the ages. Roman and Visigoth ruins lie side by side with Arabic remains in this magnificent building, which was once the favourite residence of the different rulers of the city. It has fulfilled many different functions over the years, such as Headquarters of the Inquisition, or a prison (first half of the 20th century).

Tickets can be purchased inexpensively by visiting the Alcázar locally, instead of online.

Baños Árabes or Hammam Al-Ándalus

A hammam, (In Arabic script, حمام), also known as Arabic bath, is a form of steam bath that includes the cleaning of body, mind and the enjoyment of an excellent state of relaxation. By extension they are also denominated this way, the buildings in which these were and whose structure responded to the different stays that the process of the bath requires. In Córdoba, you can not also enjoy these baths, but also get complimentary massages and experiences to enhance your visit.
